6 Things that Inked Parents are Often Told

A majority of our population today still continues to have stereotypes about people who are inked and this usually gets worse when these people are parents to little human beings. People think that the tattoo on one’s skin affect a person’s personality and the way they rear kids when, in fact, it does not have anything to do with it at all.

We are quite sure many parents – and non-parents – can relate to these statements made by people who see their tattoos for the first (or nth) time.

“You are being a bad influence to your kid.”

And they go on: “We see you have a tattoo and you probably have a multiple piercings and even plugs, too. We are not sure what kind of life you are setting up for your kids and they probably have no idea how a regular person looks like.”

“Do you know that it’s permanent?”

Tattoos are permanent – somewhat. But there’s also technology which has allowed lasers that remove tattoos. Then again, why would anyone want to get rid of their tattoo, they still are memories no matter how bad they look.

“It won’t look good when you grow older.”

Yes, tattoos won’t look as good as they were when you are younger but it’s mostly because the skin loses its elasticity and it’s normal. However, through the use of the right anesthetic gel and with proper tattoo aftercare, it is possible to enjoy a beautiful, bright and gracefully aging tattoo even if it has been years ago since it was inked.

“Don’t you have a job?”

You might be surprised to find out that there are actually a lot of US presidents and great men and women of the world who have tattoos hidden (or not) somewhere in their bodies. In the modern days, a lot of doctors and scientists – and, yes, even CIA personnel – have inked skin. CIA even dedicates a portion of their site to tell people that it is still possible to work for them even if you have a tattoo.

“I’m not going to have my kids play with your kids.”

To which the inked parent can reply: “Yes, it’s probably best for my kids. I would not want to have my kids hang out with other kids raised by judgmental people such as you.” Plus: “No. I don’t mind not being allowed into the PTA meetings, either.”

“You gangsters are addicted to pain.”

Some people choose to have ink on their skin not because of the pain but because of the beautiful final output. Those who would rather opt out of the tattoo pain would usually use a topical anesthetic spray so they do not have to deal with the pain. Whether you are a parent or not, you have probably been told these things (maybe a whole bunch more) many times and your probably have rolled your eyes each time. People can be very judgmental but no one, not even your family or friends, can dictate you on how to live your life. And, in this case, whether you want to have an inked skin or not.
