What’s the active ingredient?

Lidocaine HCl 4%. The rest of the formula is a blend of natural botanicals, aloe leaf extract among them, and it contains menthol. It’s paraben-free.

Does it contain tetracaine or epinephrine?

No. Lidocaine HCl 4% is the only active ingredient. Hush Numbing Gel contains no tetracaine, no benzocaine and no epinephrine.

How do I use it?

Follow the label directions. Adults and children 2 years of age and older: apply to the affected area not more than 3 to 4 times daily. Children under 2: ask a doctor. For external use only, keep it away from your eyes, and don’t use large quantities, particularly over raw or blistered skin. Check in with your artist before your session.

Numbing Gel or Healing Spray: which one do I need?

They do different jobs. Numbing Gel is the session product, for use before your tattoo. Healing Spray is aftercare only, for after the session while your tattoo heals.

Lidocaine numbs the skin temporarily. It helps take the edge off during your session; results vary by person and placement. 

The lidocaine-based numbing gel is applied directly to the skin you plan to tattoo. Check in with your artist before they start.

Tips for Applying Tattoo Numbing Gel 

It is best to apply the numbing gel before your tattoo appointment. Follow the label directions. 

Use gloves to avoid numbing your hands or any skin you don’t want to be numbed. Numb hands are no fun! 

Evenly spread the gel directly to the skin being tattooed. The amount you use depends on the size of the tattoo. Applying more will not make it work quicker, so just apply an even layer. 

Avoid touching the area after you apply it, and be sure to wash your hands well after applying the numbing gel. Follow the label directions.
